August Favourites

August has come to an end and our favourite products from this month have seen us through summer get togethers, hot weather and travel. Here are our August Favourites.

Wild Thing Organic Raw Bars

Snack foods that are dense in nutrients are essential for travel, summer adventures and trips to the beach and these lovely little bars from Wild Thing are packed full of nuts, seeds, fruit and superfoods. We love their granola so it’s no surprise that we love their bars too which taste great and come in recyclable wrappers. Our favourite flavour is the Berries & Seeds Bar which contains dates, sunflower seeds, cranberries, mulberries, pumpkin seeds, blueberries, goji berries and acai berry powder.

Beendhi Ready to Cook Organic Lentils

Lentils are packed full of protein, iron, folate, zinc, potassium and manganese amongst other essential nutrients. Full of fibre they are filling and easy to cook but not necessarily flavourful enough on their own to be enjoyed as a meal. These ready to cook organic boxes from Beendhi are delicately flavoured with herbs and spices and just need water added to make a delicious meal which makes them perfect for travelling. Our favourite flavour is the tomato made with coriander, cumin, fennel, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, clove, nutmeg, sundried tomatoes and black pepper.

Kombucha Kat Organic Ginger Kombucha

We are huge fans of this ancient Chinese drink and its probiotic properties; it makes us feel awake, alert, balanced and energised. Not all kombucha is created equal so when we find a flavour that ticks all our boxes we get pretty excited. This ginger kombucha from London brand Kombucha Kat is sweet, sour and fizzy. Packaged in beautiful amber bottles that double up as single stem vases, we cannot get enough.

Valdena Organic Purifying Detox Tea

This organic ayurvedic dandelion and burdock tea is designed to bring balance to the body whilst gently detoxing. Spicy and warming, drinking this tea before bed means its benefits get to work during sleep. Dandelion is rich in iron and supports liver function whilst burdock is an adaptogen that supports the lymphatic system and revives health and vitality. The tea we bought contains cinnamon bark, ginger root, licorice root, burdock root, black pepper, dandelion root, cardamom seeds, clove buds and long pepper berries which is different to the list of ingredients shown on the website which includes a natural flavouring. We always steer clear of flavourings whether they are claimed to be natural or not so if you find this tea and want to try it, we recommend checking the ingredients list first.

Baldwins Activated Charcoal Powder

Recently activated charcoal has gained popularity due to its teeth whitening effects but it has long been used as a digestive aid due to its absorbent properties which allows it to dispell gases and toxins. A great addition to any natural first aid kit, this is especially helpful for travel when we eat and drink local foods that introduce new microflora into our digestive tract which can be unsettling to begin with. We recommend buying a food grade charcoal made from coconut husks that has been activated and is sold by a company you trust.

Odylique Organic Natural Sun Screen SPF30

Finally a sun screen that will protect us without compromising our health. Although ‘healthy’ sun screens have been on the market for almost a decade, we have been unable to find one with a list of ingredients we are entirely happy with. Until now. Odylique’s SPF30 sun screen is 76% organic and all natural, made from karanja oil, zinc oxide, raw shea butter, silica, sunflower oil, candelilla wax, jojoba extracts, carnauba wax, chamomile, rosemary, sea buckthorn extracts and natural stabilisers from corn. Designed for use on sensitive skin, this has no negative effects on the face and protects extremely well from summer sun. It comes out of the tube with some effort due to its thickness of the lotion but absorbs very well and a little goes a long way.
