Christmas is a time of sweets and treats but there are healthier ways to indulge than buying conventional candy. Whilst we won’t claim that these hard boiled sweets are healthy, they are better than standard shop bought offerings made from glucose syrup, white sugar and colourings, flavourings and preservatives.
Made with just three ingredients that include healthier sugars and essential oils, these are sweets we are happy to enjoy over the festive period.
- 8 drops essential oil – we like lemon or peppermint
- 40 ml maple syrup
- 65 ml water
- 100 g coconut sugar
Boil together the maple syrup, coconut sugar and water for 8-10 minutes, stirring for the last two and removing from the heat once the mixture has started to puff up so that it doesn’t burn.
Mix in the essential oil and pour into molds. Once set, wrap the sweets in squares of grease proof paper.
