When I Saw You: A Love Letter to the Self

Hello friends, it’s Lucy here, creator of The Love Place, with a more personal post today. If you missed it, you can find my first one here.

Do you see yourself? Do you see who you really are beneath the anxieties and learnings and constraints that have been forced upon you? Do you know who you really are before the teachings of society, the failings you’ve been told you have and the worries you’ve amassed?

There is a Mariah Carey song that speaks beautifully to what happens when we see who we really are. It is a love song to another but for me the words speak to the realisation I had about life when I saw myself truly.

Please, allow yourself to let go of any judgements about my choice of illumination and let the words wash over you…

When I Saw You

Soft heavenly eyes gazed into me
Transcending space and time
And I was rendered still
There were no words for me to find at all
As I stood there beside myself
I could see you and no one else

When I saw you
When I saw you
I could not breathe
I fell so deep
When I saw you
When I saw you
I’d never be
I’d never be the same

Only once in a lifetime love rushes in
Changing you with a tide
And dawn’s ribbon of light
Bursts through the dark
Wakening you inside
And I thought it was all untrue
Until there, all at once, I knew

When I saw you
When I saw you
I could not breathe
I fell so deep
When I saw you
When I saw you
I’d never be
I’d never be the same

With no beginning
And without an end
You are the one for me
And it’s evident
And your eyes told me so
Your eyes let me know

When I saw you
When I saw you
I could not breathe,
I fell so deep
When I saw you
When I saw you
I’d never be
I’d never be the same

When we see ourselves from the soul, from the soft eyes of love, from a place before language, we are awed, broken open, filled with light, changed forever.

When I truly saw myself, I saw that I am Love, I am God, I am the divinity that is everything. All my fears and insecurities and anxieties fell away. I saw my identity was a construct encasing my truth. Time and space were measurements I was free of. I saw that I am the eternal energy of life manifesting itself as a human being on Earth.

I saw the energy of love that is the consciousness that we are all a part of.

And when I saw myself, I saw everyone else too. The innocence. The majesty. The Love that we are.

I’ll never be the same.
